Selections #24 & 25 now available

Two new selections. Yes....two. Count 'em. A one, and a two. Both of which were compiled from records discovered, then hastily adopted, during a recent jaunt to the Wild West (which is, rather oddly, situated to the Southeast of here - go figure). 26 records were bought home in all - 27 if you count the sole Double LP as two separate one - all of which feature in here somewhere. None of them cost more than a Dollar, or less than a Quarter. Most were somewhere in between.

Selection #24 - "What We Did On Our Holidays, Part One: Dustbunny Discotheque"
10 tracks, in 60 minutes 40 seconds, weighing 55.56 MB.

Selection #25 - "What We Did On Our Holidays, Part Two: Turntable Tumbleweeds"
13 tracks, in 59 minutes 00 seconds, weighing 54.03 MB.

Both are rendered as 128kbps mp3 files, and can also be streamed from the player on our MySpace profile page. Tracklistings to follow, quite soon.

Selection #20 - Jingle Hell

Santa + Satan = JINGLE HELL!!!

And what, pray, is Jingle Hell - it is 40 (count 'em) versions of the popular seasonal tune, "Jingle Bells" played back to back, one after the other. Oh yes.

Selection #20 - No longer available, sorry!

Details....: 40 tracks, 98 minutes 37 seconds, 90.3MB mp3 file @ 128kbps.

NOTE: This was originally broadcast live on KAOS 89.3FM, on December 17th, 1999, and was recorded onto a Chrome C-120 cassette....which is by now quite old and thrashed in any case, and had previously been used to record my show, every week, for about the entire year previous. There is a good deal of wow, flutter, and bleed-through action for the first 20 minutes or so, but then it calms down immensely. Please bear with it!

Happy Holidays to one and all....

Bo, bo, bo....rewind Selector (etc.).

2007, in a shiny little can. Some things we liked, a few firm favourites, a smattering of edits and remixes stirred in for good measure. All of which fell off the back of this year's lorry. It's hardly comprehensive, but then who the hell do you think we are - Q Magazine? You are mistaken, Senor.

Well - travel, indecision, and confidence aside, it's finally back to some new music for you to listen to. It's not that such a long break was the intention, it just happened - and I'd actually prefer it didn't happen again, and I can only hope that you may feel the same way....

Anyhow - this is rather an autumnal selection, funnily enough. Suits the longer hours of darkness.

Selection #15 - No longer available, sorry!

Details are as follows - 20 tracks (how about that?), in 102 minutes and 30 seconds, lovingly rendered into a 93.84MB mp3 file, at 128kbps.

Tracklisting soon come. It's a bit of mish-mash but it works - like a crispy pancake roll, but much (much) less greasy. I have yet to make a mix that is so dripping with oil, that it makes the paper bag transparent. Perhaps one day though.

As promised, here is Selection #12, which can either dovetail nicely with Selection #11, or survive quite nicely by itself, thank you very much....:

Selection #12 - No longer available, sorry!

56 minutes and 12 seconds, 51.45MB mp3 @ 128kbps.

I am presently working on an essay - on the much maligned role of those who pick out music for others to listen to, and how such individuals (and their knowledge) have a completely valid reason to continue to thrive, and survive, even in the era of iTunes, and the internet/new media at large. This selection was put together with these ideas very much in mind, and also borrows its title, "Woe, Selector"....:

3 new mixed Selections - available while stocks last!
Phew....it's been a busy day! 2 brand new selections, plus I've added a recent bonus also.

Firstly, for Selection #4, I chose to tackle the latest DJ History
mix club challenge - posed, as it happens, by Jez from the rather excellent Horselatitdues blog - pick any 10 records from your collection, completely at random, and play them "as is". So I rolled some dice. Firstly, to select which shelf to pick the record from, and then again, to select which record from that shelf would be picked. 100+ rolled dice later, the 10 candidates emerged, and were played. The results are 57 minutes 15 seconds in length, and 52.4MB in size....:

Selection #4 -
No longer available, sorry!

Then it was back to business as usual for Selection #5 - starting the journey with one solitary record, then following it, and following it some more, until a logical destination was reached. This one is 12 tracks deep, 71 minutes 24 seconds long, and 65.3MB wide.

Selection #5 - No longer available, sorry!

Plus - by way of a special bonus, I've also put up a recent mini-mix I compiled for Ema Nosurak, and her Nu Boogie radio show, on Pure 107.8 FM in Stockport, North of England. This contains 6 tracks, is 23 minutes 51 seconds long, and a 21.8MB file.

Nu Boogie Mini-Mix -
No longer available, sorry!

As usual, all three are 128kbps mp3 files, and the tracklistings will follow along some time later.

And, of course, you can also hear them streaming, via our MySpace page.
Hope you enjoy them all!

Yes, it's Selection #3!
And about time too, I hear some of you say....:

Selection #3 - No longer available, sorry!

This time around it's 76 minutes and 10 seconds long. All over the shop, in a fairly orderly sort of way, if you consider music could be such a thing (my personal belief is that it can go a heck of a lot further than that - we haven't even seen the tip of the iceberg....let alone what lies below the waterline!). This mix bought you in part (I don't know which part) by Bunnahabhain. Which may explain a lot. Tracklist comes later (you know this), streaming comes via the MySpace. I thank you....

Selection #2 is here
A little something to kick start your March....:

Selection 2 - No longer available, sorry!

Being 78 minutes and 26 seconds of sounds strewn somewhere between 1977, and last week, with a definite nod toward the dancefloor throughout (of course). As before, for those that don't care to download, the mix is also available as a stream from our MySpace.

Selection #1 - finally here....
Now that the cable to hook the mixer and PC together has finally shown up....I can actually post some music on here!

As some of you may know, I did radio shows for a long time, both in the US, and the UK - over 18 years, on and off - and then I stopped. Because I figured I could do much the same thing myself online....regular selections of music, for people to enjoy however, and whenever, they wanted to. And so it was that the idea for The Phonographic Society was born. It's basically just me, and the occasional invited guest, playing some records we like, one after the other - hopefully for your enjoyment. It's going to be a regular thing, just like the radio show was.

And that first selection (I can't mix in the proper sense, so calling them mixes seemed a bit stupid) can be grabbed right here....:

Selection #1 - No longer available, sorry!

What is it? Well, almost 78 minutes of music for dancefloors. Any dancefloor - maybe your kitchen, your bed, your computer chair, your bus ride to work....it's entirely up to you.

You get the music now, and the tracklists later - posted at the site once the mix itself is taken down (in a couple of weeks), and a new one posted in its' place. Although, in the meantime, you could have fun guessing what they are. Updates will be regular, but not on a set schedule - every few weeks most likely. Sometimes more frequently, sometimes less.

Basically, this site is a compromise - between doing radio and getting steadily more unhappy with it, and something else more fun, like being able to burn regular mix CD's for all of my friends. Hopefully it's a happy medium between the two.

Just know that I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't care....
